Check out our Halloween Parade!
We made spiders!
We played pin the eye on the monster. This was so funny to watch! We laughed and laughed!
We also got to play Halloween BINGO!
We had yummy apples and a frosted sugar cookie for a snack.
Halloween was so much fun! We are ready for a fun-filled night of trick or treating!
Thank you parents for all of your help for our party. We appreciate you so much:)

Magnet Mania!!!
Today we had a blast learning about objects that are magnetic and ones that are not!
First we predicted if the object we were testing was magnetic or nonmagnetic.
Then we tested our results! It was so exciting to see what kinds of objects were magnetic.
A paper clip is magnetic!
Here is our recording sheet with all of our predictions and scientific results!
A nail is made of metal and is magnetic!
We are great scientists!

Word Work
We move our magnet to the choice we would like to do. We get to do all three reading choices each day. It has been great to be able to make the decision on our own for which choice we will be doing. Next week, there will be four choices!
Inside the word work bag is a container of play dough and a golf tee. We can write our words in the play dough. There is also a bunch of wiki sticks. These are so much fun to build words with because they are bendable and stay in the shape you put them in.

Spirit Week!!
Dress to Impress Day
Here is a picture of us on Thursday when we are looking our best in our fancy apparel!
Spirit Assembly
Here we are at the spirit assembly being so respectful! Some of the high school cheerleaders, band members, football players and superfans came to get us pumped up for the Homecoming game!
We also had our first character assembly today. The 3rd and 4th graders taught us about good sportsmanship.

We are GREAT readers!!
| Here is Lily during her choice of read to self. She is doing a fabulous job of keeping her eyes on her book! |
We can listen to books on an MP3 player for one of our reading choices. Here is what listen to reading looks like. What a great way to improve our fluency, use expression and comprehend stories. It is so neat to be able to listen to someone else read and then try to make our voice match!
| Owen is learning so many new things when he reads! |

Open House was a Success!
Thank you for coming to visit our classroom during open house! I am so thrilled I had the opportunity to meet all of you and your first grader. I am really looking forward to a wonderful year!
A couple notes...
*Please remember to fill out the information in the folders that you received on Wednesday and send them back to me at your earliest convenience.
*The first day of school is Tuesday, September 6. Our class code this year is "1C." We will be lining up on the lower elementary playground every morning by making a line behind the paint on the cement that says 1C.
*Don't forget to send a healthy snack with your first grader every day.
*We are still in need of a Head Room Parent. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact me.
**Thank you again for coming to open house. I really enjoyed meeting all of you and your children! Have a great Labor Day weekend!

What will you need for first grade?
Almost everything you will need for first grade will already be at school waiting for you! There are a couple things you may want to help be prepared.
1.) You will want a folder of your choice for your backpack. This folder will hold notes from school and mail each day.
2.) Headphones. Each first grader will need their own headphones or earbuds for listening to books on our Mp3 players.
3.) A snack. Each day you will want a peanut free snack to eat so your body can be ready to learn. Please make sure this is a healthy snack such as fruit, vegetables, pretzels, crackers, yogurt etc...
In addition to this, our classroom is ALWAYS in need of items to help us stay healthy and run smoothly. Please do not feel obligated, but if you are willing and able, we are always accepting the following donations.
*Disinfectant Wipes (Clorox/Lysol type wipes - we wipe down our desks/table tops frequently to try and fight off colds and the flu!)
*Kleenex, Kleenex, Kleenex! We go through LOTS of these in first grade!
*Hand Sanitizer
*Old White socks for white board erasers
*Gallon size Ziplock bags
Thank you,
Miss Cain
