Writer's Spotlight on....Zach!

Zach loves to write!

Dear Mrs. Cambell,
I think I should have more games to play. The first reason is in some games you exercise. The second reason is if our class will play it right. The third reason is if you sweat it makes you think better.

One day when a substitute came we didn't play games. A solution is if we play games we sweat. I hope you like this letter.
From,
Zach

Writer's Spotlight on....James!

James

Dear Mom and Dad,
I think I should have a book and a paper to write with. One reason is that you can read the book and write on the paper. Another reason is you can right and right a ton of paper an all of paper.

Another reason is that you can write on the paper and you can read a book. One day I saw a lot of books and paper. I can read and I saw a lot of books and papers. I can read two books. One solution is that you can go to the store and buy books and paper.
Love, James

Jump With Jill Assembly!

Our school got to go to the middle school last week Tuesday for the Jump with Jill Assembly!

Jill taught us all about healthy eating choices. Like we always need to eat breakfast! Good foods for breakfast were eggs, fruit, yogurt, and low fat milk.

Some of our classmates got to join her up on the stage to dance!

Jill had us up and moving throughout the entire show!

We also need lots of vegetables that are good for our "skin, hair, eyes, bones"
Ask your child if they can remember the "super power vegetables" song!

She also taught us about exercise and how important it is for us to move our body and get do things that are active!

Writer's Spotlight on...Aly!

Aly has been working really hard to get all the pieces of a persuasive letter in her writing. She is still working on this piece but she is on her way to including all the parts!

Dear Mom,
I think I should have a new room. One reason is that I can't go to sleep. Second is that my brother wakes me up. I think I should have a new room.

Here is Aly's touch organizer to help her remember all the parts of a persuasive letter. We start with a greeting, then our opinion, next is our reasons, then a mini-moment, after that is our solution, and lastly, our closure and signature.

Blue Ribbon Celebration Day!

On Tuesday, November 25 Jamestown Elementary raised our Blue Ribbon Flag for the first time!

We all wore our blue shirts to celebrate this awesome award for our school!

Here are some pictures of the flag being raised. If you drive by the flag pole in during the winter months, you will not see the flag hanging due to our wonderful Michigan weather:) But, it will be hung as soon as we make it to the warm spring weather! As you can see from the pictures, it was just a little bit chilly outside!

Christmas Program!

Congratulations to all the first graders as well as Mr. Barry for a wonderful Christmas Program!

Enjoy a few pictures from the night!
*Sorry that not everyone is represented. The night was a little busy!

Top Secret Project

Top Secret Project!

Please send into school with your child 6-8 family pictures.  We are working on a top secret project and will need these pictures for the project.   They need to be 4x6 size or smaller. Please make sure all of your immediate family members are represented in these pictures. They can be group shots or of 1 or 2 people.  We will be cutting these pictures and being “crafty” with them and you will not be getting them back in the same condition, so please do not send priceless “only copy” pictures.   You can scan them at any photo store (ex: Target, Walgreens) and reprint a copy. Or you can print copies on regular printer paper. They do not need to be on photo paper, but should be in color.  Please bring them to school by Friday, December 5.
Thank you for your help

Writer's Spotlight on...Aly!

Aly
Aly did a great job of including her opinion at the beginning of her letter and at the end! Way to go Aly!

Dear Mom,

I think I should have a dog because they play with you. They lick you. I will take it to the bathroom. And feed it. I think I should have a dog.
Love,
Alyson

Writer's Spotlight on...Brendan!

Writer's Spotlight on....Brendan!

Brendan is off to a wonderful start with his persuasive letters! Our goal is to persuade others to change their opinion to think like us. We will have to see how Mrs. Teitsma responds...

Dear, Mrs. Teitsma

I think we should put scarfs on are owls. One reason is I want it to match the book. Don't you want it to match the book? If you let us we will be the nicest class you ever had.

Love your creative student,
Brendan

Writer's Spotlight on.....Sage!

Writer's Spotlight on...Sage!!!

First, me and mom and dad and Layne but not Drey packet not to go camping to go to our condo! I'm so excited to go to our condo!

Next, we have to go to our hotel. First, it is super boring. But Rayleigh, Carson, Carisa, Aurek, and Kaia were right next door to us! We brushed our teeth and went to potty and dad got us chocolate milk for us to drink. We woke up to a big surprise! "We leave today!" I said. "Yes."

After that Drey opened the door and we were after him. We unpacked out stuff. And played outside and went to the beach and went to the outdoor pool and indoor pool.

Finally, we packet our stuff and got in our car and let bye, bye, see you later!

Sage has been working on adding details and dialogue in her writing! She has made great progress on each goal!

Writer's Spotlight on....Owen!

Owen has worked so hard on his handwriting! I am very proud of his spaces between each word and how he remembers to add ending punctuation. Check it out...

I was catching fire flies. It was night time. I saw the fire flies flash their lights.

I caught a lot of fire flies. I had fun! There was lots of them.

We had a fire in our fire place.

Then I let the fire flies go. They flew away.

Halloween Fun!

We had so much fun at our Halloween Party!

During the day, we wrote wanted signs for our made up monsters!

Monsters on the loose!

After we wrote our wanted poster, we shared them with our class.

Some of us wrote two pages full of information about where to find the monster!

During our party, we made pumpkins.

We also played Halloween BINGO!

We played a game where you had to put on as many dress up clothes as you could and run back to the starting line in one minute.

Kayleigh chose the fire department coat!

Some more fun pictures!

Thank you so much to all the parents who helped with our party! We appreciate you very much!
