Writer's spotlight on...Jaclyn!

Jaclyn's published how-to is almost ready for our celebration! She did a great job using transition words and her sketches teach us what to do!

How To Build A Snowfort

Do you like snow forts? Because I like them!

You need snow and a snowball machine.

First, you use snowballs to build up and up. Now you are almost done.

Next, you put more on, turn up and down.

I hope you have fun with it.

Writer's Spotlight on...Cole!

Purposeful Talk

Math Talk

We have been working very hard to be able to provide evidence for how we get our answers in math!
Our goal is to be able to explain how we came to our answer. When we can explain our strategy to someone else, this deepens our understanding.
Take a look at these two!

Valentine's Day List

Spelling Review!

Spelling can be so much fun!
It was a spelling test week for us this week, so we played a fun game to help us review our words! It was like the game headbands!

Mrs. Anderson put word cards on our head. When we found a partner, we had to practice spelling the word on their head:)

This was a fun way to review our spelling words! However, I think there was more laughing then spelling in some cases...ha ha!

Our first How-To's!

We have now moved to our next genre of writing: procedural writing! We can find How-To's everywhere! I have encouraged all students to find procedural writing around their home. Great ideas include: recipes and directions for games.

Check out a few close ups of us blowing a bubble!

Writer's Spotlight on...Robin!

Here is Robin! She wrote her first How-To piece of writing this week!

Here is her self portrait of herself blowing a bubble! Don't worry, we started with big bubbles, but as they are stored in the cold, they will deflate more and more... :)
You will need: Gum, tongue, mouth, teeth

First, you unwrap the gum and put it in your mouth. Then chew for about 20 seconds.

Next, flatten it on your tongue and push it to the top of your mouth. Put your tongue through your teeth.

Last, blow out and hold the gum with your lips.

Writing Celebration with 1B!

We have worked so hard on our persuasive letters and now it is time to celebrate! Here is each table with their juice toast!

We celebrated by sharing our writing with Mrs. Stefanich's class! They were writing opinion letters too!

It was fun to hear different opinions!

Christmas Party Fun!

Holiday Fun!
During school families, we had a sing-a-long in the gym with the entire school!

There were some elves that helped Mr. Barry!

Even some students were picked to help sing the songs.

I spy Mia from our class!

Can you guess what song this one was for?

Even some songs in Spanish!

We had a book exchange with our class! We passed the books to the left/right as we listened to a poem. Some of us need to learn the difference between left and right:)

We decorated gingerbread houses! They were made from our milk cartons at school!

 The finished products...

Thank you again to all the parents who donated supplies for our gingerbread houses! We had a blast making them!
