Writing Celebration!

 Our second writing celebration was wonderful! This writing unit focused on writing small moments. When we write a small moment, we want to focus on one event that has happened to us in our lives. For example, we wouldn't want to write about our entire birthday party, we would want to write about just opening presents or just eating cake. If we can zoom in on one moment, it forces us to stretch out the story with details, which is what good writers do.

We have a juice toast before we start reading our stories.

It is such a great feeling to accomplish our goals!

After we toast, we each take turns reading our stories to the class. Our book is displayed on the document camera for everyone to see!

Thanksgiving is for giving thanks!

This turkey does not want to be eaten for Thanksgiving so he decides to run and disguise himself  so the farmer can't find him! We disguised our turkey's too and wrote about what they would say! Here is what we came up with...

Lily's turkey was disguised as a girl. 

Logan's turkey will not be seen by the farmer in this Santa suit!

We wrote what the turkey would say when the farmer asked him if he was a turkey.  

Brynn disguised her turkey as a tree.

Then we shared what we wrote!

 We also made a turkey with lots of feathers to help us remember the long vowel sounds!

We like to help each other out!

Here is what one page of our final product looked like:) This was a lot of work, but really fun!

Books, books, books! They are so much fun to read AND so much fun to share! Every Friday, we pick one book from our book box to share with the class. We can share an illustration, read a page or share a connection. It is so important for children to share and discuss books! Being able to share books helps students with comprehension, making connections, fluency, accuracy, learning new vocabulary and many more...! Here is a great website with lots of different ways to discuss books. http://www.readingrockets.org/article/82/

We also take time on Friday to shop for new books. It is important for us to make sure we are finding books that are a good fit for us. We use the poster below to help us find these.

I PICK! I-I choose a book. P-Purpose (why do I want to read it?) I-Interest (does it interest me?) C-Comprehend (do I understand what I read?) K-Know (Do I know most of the words?) This is a great tool to use when picking out books from your local library or at home.

Kaidence loves to learn about space.

When we shop, we put all the book baskets on our desks and search for new books. Lily found the book Parts. It is a good fit for her!

Ella found the book, If You Give A Moose A Muffin. This was a good fit for her.

Emma likes to read about Biscuit.

Brynn is reading the first page of this book to see if it is a good fit for her.

Asa loves to read non-fiction!

Michael has found his books and is using his time wisely by starting to read.

Zach loves to read books that teach him about something new!

Halloween Fun!

 Check out our Halloween Parade!

 We made spiders!

 We played pin the eye on the monster. This was so funny to watch! We laughed and laughed!

 We also got to play Halloween BINGO!

 We had yummy apples and a frosted sugar cookie for a snack.

 Halloween was so much fun! We are ready for a fun-filled night of trick or treating!
