Writer's Spotlight on...Claire!

Claire is a wonderful writer!
We went to the song festival. We are listening to songs and jams. My and Lydia, mom, dad and friends. Seth, Ryan and grandma and grandpa.

We are in the parking lot and we are walking out of the parking lot.

We are walking on the sidewalk to the song festival.

We are having fun and we have glow sticks and we get a picture taken.

Writer's Spotlight on....Lexi!

This is Lexi! She has done a fabulous job of using spaces and stretching out her words this week! She has included a feeling on several pages. Way to go Lexi!

I caught a fish. My Grandma didn't. I was happy. Grandpa was sad.

I caught another one but my grandpa did not. I felt happy again. My grandpa was not happy. I helped my grandpa.

I helped my grandpa feel better. I gave him a hug and helped him try to catch a fish. But we didn't. He said tomorrow.

Now we feel better. We ate lunch on the boat. We got to shower. I showed up with the bucket.

What a GREAT first week!

Welcome Back!

We have had a great first week in first grade!
In first grade, we encourage all students to be the best they can be! We discussed the fact that we are all different and are good at different things! In first grade, we celebrate that we are all different and unique!

Here is our class promise that we made on Thursday! We came up with many ways we want to be treated by each other. We all put our signature on the promise, which means we will try our best to follow these traits every day!

We also made a guessing book this week to try and help us learn each other's names! There were a few clues to give us a hint at who this person could be.

We read the book, One by, Katherine Otoshe. This book has a great lesson and one to buy for your home library! We learned a great message from this author about standing up for yourself and for others when someone isn't being nice. We made bookmarks of the number 1 to remind us to stand up to bullies.
Also, we read a brand new book that Mrs. Anderson just bought! This book is about a girl and her dog. They try their best to make the most magnificent thing, but they just can't get it right! A great story about perseverance and what to do when you get frustrated or want to quit!

That's it for now! I would love to post some pictures of our class, but I am waiting on a few blog release forms. Hopefully they will be in soon!

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms of 1c! We want you to know how much we appreciate you and all that you do for us. Thank you for your unconditional love, continued support and daily sacrifices. You are so special to us!

A Special Treat!

On Friday, May 1st we had a special visitor...Mr. Krikke!
Mr. Krikke is a chemistry professor at Grand Valley State University and came to Jamestown to teach us about science! He did some amazing experiments and some of us thought he was a magician!

Some of the teachers were even involved in the experiments!

The best part about his presentation was when he put goldfish crackers in dry ice and let a few volunteers eat them. After we put the crackers in our mouths and started chewing, smoke came right out of our mouths and some students even had smoke coming out of their nose!

Mr. Krikke did many experiments with solids, liquids and gases! This is one of our science units in first grade, so we had a lot of connections with what he was showing us!

Mr. Krikke was amazing! He did such a great job fueling our excitement for science and demonstrating each experiment! We had a blast! Thank you again for taking the time out of your schedule to spend an afternoon with us!
